Infinite series

Oftentimes, kids launch into an infinite "Why?" question series. To escape it, ask the question yourself, within the answer.

For example, little Aditi asks, "Why is it so hot outside?" and I answer, "Because it's not raining."
"Why it's not raining?" "Because there are no clouds."
"Why there are no clouds? "Because there are less trees. *Why do you think there are less trees?*"

And, her response is usually, "I want to go out to play." Thus releasing me from the perpetual Why loop.

This trick, by the way, works equally well on over-curious adults.

Keyboard karma

According to little Aditi, the person who created my laptop keyboard doesn't know A, B, C, D.. in proper sequence.

I thought this was just aww-sooo-cute… Until yesterday evening, when I caught Aditi in the act of dislocating the keys from my laptop keyboard, using a spoon.

When I asked her what she was up to, she replied that she was trying to take out the keys and put them back in the proper alphabetical order.

Dress code for cows

Two huge cows often pass by our apartment; one is white in colour and the other one is chocolate brown. Interestingly, I have never seen both of them together.

According to our little Aditi, it's in fact the SAME cow that wears a 'white dress' on some days and a 'brown dress' on other days… Just like her school uniform code which is blue on some days and white on others.

I am waiting for the day when we see both the cows together and see what explanation Aditi has. I am sure she will have one.

ABCD

Arti is trying to teach little Aditi the spelling of her name.

"A" says Arti. "A" recites Aditi. "D" says Arti. "B" says Aditi.
Thinking she might have misheard, Arti says "A" "D". Aditi repeats "A" "B".

This goes on for a while and then Aditi exclaims, sounding frustrated,
"अगं आई, A नंतर B येतं, D नाही!"

Wiping off the light

After a tiring Sunday morning spent in vacuuming, washing, cleaning, scrubbing, rinsing, wiping, drying, I was looking forward to the afternoon nap.

But no sooner than I had closed eyelids, little Aditi started shining light from a small pen torch on my eyes.

After bearing with it for a while, I opened my eyes and told her to stop. "Why?" "Because the light is hitting my face and hurting it."

So I lay down again, but had to get up in minutes. Aditi had picked up a napkin and was rubbing my face. "Why?" "I am wiping the light off your face".

I gave up any attempt for nap.

Priority Mapping Principle

In dealing with kids, it helps to use the Priority Mapping Principle.

When little Aditi wants to play in the hot sun(sports) we deflect her by offering ice cream(food). Whereas if she's going for too many chocolates, I offer to play with her.

However, if she is yearning for ice cream then offering chocolate is futile because both of them are in same category (food) and at that moment ice cream is at priority 1.

Cat in the phone

Little Aditi informs me that my cellphone has grown bigger and heavier.
Why?

Because she has just now fed the cat in the Talking Tom app.

Solar Control

Today morning, as I attempt to wake up little Aditi, she says, her eyes still tightly shut,
"बाबा, सूर्य लाव ना!"

And so, I draw apart the window curtains, and thus 'turn the Sun ON'.

For the entire day, I haven't been able to get over the thought that my kid thinks her father controls the solar timings.
